    Help with Jagdpanther Divisions

    Needing some help please guys

Have a chance to get a Wehrpas for radio operator whose Wehrpas states he was late in the war with Jagdpanther units 1031 and then on to 124.

Had a look online and the only information i can find is saying 1031 finished up in 1944 yet his Wehrpas states he was in it in 1945......

Have i read this right and do any of you have any information if these entries look legit and if yes where were they based this late in the war please ?

    Thanks

    Hi,

Unless those two units, 1034 and 214 were actually equipped with JagdPanthers, their titles are Jagdpanzer kp and Panzer Jager Abt, which means basically both are anti-tank units, and could either be fully armoured or towed anti-tanks guns.

The 214th Infantry Division had a PzJager Abt 214.

highly unlikely that Jagdpanthers had anything to do with these units, but ...........??

      Thanks Lennard.

My eyes must be playing up ….first entry is Jagdpanther KP 1031 …… If it is a anti tank unit why would the entry have Jagdpanther before it...I had hoped that it indicated the vehicle he was perhaps berthed in....always good to learn these things.

      Thanks

        Hi Gary,
I am confused, I can only see Jagdpanzer, not Jagdpanther. Are we looking at different pages of your Wehrpas ?

        cheers lennard

No you are right Lennard....I think I am going shut down crazy now

Take it a Jagdpanzer unit is like you say anti tank either with tanks or artillery so possibly still a possibility he could have been tank crew ?

          Thanks

In general, Jagdpanzer refers to the varieties of fully enclosed self propelled antitank panzers which began to appear in mid 1943 with the Ferdinand. The Jagdpanzer IV, V, VI, and 38 (Hetzer) followed. It’s possible this soldat would have been assigned to either a JP IV or Hetzer. The V and VI usually went to the heavy panzerjaeger units.

I would think this could be the Pz. Jager company of Grenadier Rgt 1031 that likely was equipped with Hetzers or possibly Jagdpanzer IVs.

A normal Grenadier-Regiment would not have an armoured (Panzer) kompanie. It should be part of Panzerjäger-Abteilung 31 (31.VGD).
Many Panzerjäger-Abteilung's received a Sturmgeschütz-Kompanie later in the war, which started with "10". So with PzJg-Abt. 31 it would be 1031.

I am more surprised how the soldier ended up from this 1031 Kompanie in Panzerjäger-Abteilung 214 (214.Infanterie-Division) in late April 1945. At this time the 214.ID was fighting in the Halbe pocket, while the 31.VGD was fighting in Eastprussia and ended at Hela. I know they transported allot of wounded and specialists out of Eastprussia. Perhaps this soldier was a specialist and shipped away. But how could he have reached the 214.ID in the Halbe pocket?

I'm collecting anything related to the towns Castricum and Bakkum during WWII.
Also soldbucher from 116pzdiv. And 1944-1945 eastfront pockets, kampfgruppe and Oder front.
