    GWB "30" for Review

    Hello Guys,

This is my last post this year.

Is it a good GWB? Looks a good 30 for me. Is it correct?

    Happy New Year Guys!!!

A nice genuinely worn badge but for me there is nothing to say it is an unmarked 30. Could be from other makers as well.

Wouldn’t the hinge and catch be determiners for the maker? I think that every tombac marked 30 uses the same exact hinge and catch. (slim pin, not the wide). Maybe I’m wrong, but that’s what I’ve always believed for this particular badge.

          Beautiful badge by the way.

Some gold and silver 30's also have wide & tapered pins as well as the set up featured on this unmarked example. imo this one is by Hauptmunzampt Wein as it matches very closely the obverse of my own gold 30 marked example.

I agree with you as I’m fairly confident that it’s an unmarked 30 Hauptmunzampt Wein.

Yes, every marked tombak 30 I've seen uses the same hinge and catch. Main pins vary as described above.

Nische, that's a classic example of an unmarked 30 with the concentric circles and what appears to be the CORRECT "30" hinge (hard to make out from the oblique side pic with the hinge in shadow though) - neither feature is apparent on the badge at the top of the thread.

The term "Unmarked 30" is used way too liberally and often incorrectly.

                    Regards

Thanks Mike for your response and you do bring up a good point regarding the overuse of the term. I did a lot of research before buying my badge, including the hinge, catch, and the concentric circles. All things I was looking for.

With that said, it took me a long time to find my badge. One that had shown some field use and exhibited a nice patina.

And to the creator of this thread wschmidt, you’ve got a great badge there. It’s a beauty!
