The dictionary defines the word as in tool & die as "any of various tools or devices for imparting a desired shape, form, or finish to a material or for impressing an object or material: as a (1) : the larger of a pair of cutting or shaping tools that when moved toward each other produce a desired form in or impress a desired device on an object by pressure or by a blow (2) : a device composed of a pair of such tools."

      Hi,

      To lohengrin24:
"die" quiere decir molde, asi que cuando hablamos de "die caracteristics" son las características de los moldes que usaba cada fabricante, lo que permite diferenciar unos de otros.

      To Frank,

I´ve looking around and I´ve no idea why your wb looks like that. What base metal do you think it has? It´s heavy, light...
      My thoughs are:
Maybe it´s made of any kind of white metal (aluminium?) and it has any kind of bath appplied before painting it black that leaves the brass colour to the surface.
Any other way I can´t explain why it has the two materials because it´s impossible to be made of both of them without being mixed.

I´ve tried to contact Chris to see if he has any info, but it looks like he´s not around...

      Cheers,

      Javier.

          Dear Javier,

It is definitely not Aluminum. It is not by any means lighter that a brass badge and it looks like brass everywhere except for the scratches on the obverse that show a white metal.

It is funny that lohengrins badge seems to consist of such a "mix" as well.

          Cheers, Frank H.
