Hi Mike,
The Black is a very nice original in Tombak.
The Gold, if original, would be a much later one (probably TR period). I've seen the catch associated with GWL but I don't like the weak detail on the obverse hilt area.

I agree. The Black issue is a Schinkle Type and the Gold more than likely Third Reich Issue, which is okay of course if it is.
Not an easy task to say so with complete confidence, as there were so many makers and variations. Personally I think they are both good.Comment
