    Unusual Imperial Wound Badge

Picked this up, odd pattern to me? It is engraved on the reverse as well though I dont know if the engraving will show in my pics but it appears to read
    Schmalschlager S.I. Hormann
    Verhangnis Voller flug 16 x 16

I have not seen this pattern before...is it marked for silver content?

Could you please post some better obverse and reverse pictures not taken in an angle?
        Regards

I collect them for reference purposes for the benefit of the hobby (for the right "fake" price of course).

That's different. The engraving is grammatically correct, apparently the recipient was an aviator.

            Strange Imperial Wound Badge

I have to say, this is one hideous looking Wound Badge, even judging by the angle the pictures were taken on. The helmet looks more like a fireman’s, the bow made out of string and the wreath looks more like oakleaves than laurel.
BUT, and this is only my own view, I think it might be of 1920s/30s manufacture and some sort of private commission, with less pebbled background to take the engraving, which in itself is another anomaly.
So, it’s not something I would at this point, write off as some sort of fake, but it will be interesting to hear what some others here have to say about it. Perhaps someone else has something like it in their collection. It’s certainly not like anything else that I have come across.
All the best with this one.
            Regards
            Norman

It has very clean looking engraving, appears to have the appropriate age and was in a very strong collection. But that said, I do have to agree with Norman that it's an odd looking duck!

It seems to have taken on the patina very much like sterling silver, are there any proof marks anywhere?
                Maybe jeweler made?

                  That's what I'm thinking.

Yes, does appear to be silver, I might have missed it but cannot find any proofs or hallmarks.

Hi, this is of a type i have never seen before the pebbling reminds me of the type we see on the chaotic type wound badge but as already been said could have been a private purchase piece, but is still a nice looking oddity in my mind Kevin.

I agree with Kevin (even though he has a few oddities in mind), I thought of the reverse of the chaotic pattern when looking at this one, being smoother to take an engraving. As already pointed out, this lettering also fits the period, and appearing also to be a naturally toned silver, there is a good chance this is a specially crafted private commission. As such it would definitely have its legitimate place in any collection.

How about a clear and straight obverse as well?

Hope these are better! It is definitely silver. Makes me wish I collected Imperial or Wound Badges! I collect US and Panzer.

It looks a little more impressive face on. I will still go with my initial reaction, that this is a period private commission made of silver.
Anyone having a crack at the engraving? That will add a nice bit to its history and I’m sure it wouldn’t be hard to find it a home should you want to sell it.
