This thread is more for the potential buyer's benefit.

My take is that I'm fine with the Black and Silver but I feel the Gold is probably post-45 produced (not necessarily a repro as such) based on obverse detail and hardware (especially the catch). I'd be happy for the Gold to turn out to be pre-45 - I'm not sure the potential buyer will though (I priced it based on my evaluation, not being pre-45)! Further comments are welcome!

Like you know these are a minefield but the hinge looks good one it

Hi Hans,

Yes, it's a small flat-wire catch. It's original to the badge. Thickness is "OK" (ie we are not talking thin sheet brass) but it's not very wide compared to a typical flat-wire catch.

Didn't S&L use a catch like that on their hollow uboot badge during the inter war years?

Yes, that's part of the issue. They also used it in the early post-war years.

For the last few years I have been trying to find accurate information on these WWI KM Wound badges. There is little information out there. Most of the ones I see on the internet are either reproductions (and sold as such much of the time) or I think they were produced as replacement badges between WWI and WWII.

Having said that, I like your Black and Silver examples. Like others, the catch on the Gold example immediately caught my attention as being odd.
