    Dear Steven,

in my opinion your WB is a copy, the obverse is very convicing without another to compare with next to it. The big give away on it is the reverse with the wrong type of hinge and catch.

Don´t throw away your fake WB´s! Get in touch with me.
I collect them for reference purposes for the benefit of the hobby (for the right "fake" price of course).

That's what I was afraid of...I feel sick. What a shame- the details are beautiful. At least I can return it with no problem.

        Dear Steven,

don´t take my answer for granted yet. I am in no way an "expert" in WB´s, just gave you my thought of it. Wait for the Experts verdict, i am still learning but i don´t like the reverse of your badge.
        Regards

Any input on this badge will be received with appreciation, I trust the opinions of this forum. I wonder if there are many others like this one out there?

              Steven,

I'm not sure if this badge is ok.

What i like: the details and the nice aged color .

What i don't like: This type of hinge who not used by known makers of WBs and if i remember well similar hinge design i have seen on modern copies in U.K.

For the start i recommend to you to stick with known makers and types.

                Thanks Chris-
I never thought that I would see the day when wound badges would reach this level of fakery (if it is fake). Before, the fakes were dead giveaways with their tiny needle pins and crude casting. The level of quality and craftsmanship in this one is frightening s this is without a doubt, the best detail I have ever seen on these badges (original and fake).

Steven, I saw it when it was on Ebay and passed. Not for my collection, as they say.

                    Thanks Vadim,
I'm glad that I got a guarantee in writing from the seller that I could return it if I was not satisfied. Thanks for the input.

                      Update...

I contacted the seller, and he was most generous in his offer to a full refund plus half of the shipping cost. He was very shocked at the information that I relayed to him after the forum input. He told me that he received this badge from a veteran along with 3 others. The man was not a collector, and they had been with him since his return from the war. I know...another veteran story. I have no clue as to the credibility of the veteran or the seller's claim, but at least the seller doesn't seem to be interested in scamming me out of my money.

I have asked the seller to gather any information on the fellow (i.e. name, division, unit, area of operation, dates of service,MOS etc.) that he obtained the piece from. I don't know that any diferent conclusions could be drawn on the badge if I do get the information that I requested. I just fear the possibility (remote) that 10 or 15 years from now this piece might be recognized as good with additional research. I am still with you guys in thinking that the piece is probably not good, but I also thought, "What if this wound badge is in the same category as the Baltic Cross flag that are occasionally obtained from veterans?", as far as I know, that argument is still raging.

You guys have more knowledge than I on these, that is why I asked-and I respect you all for your input. I just wanted to share my thought and this bit of information with those kind enough to reply.

                      All the Best,
                      Steven

                        On the way back...

                        Hi Hans, Chris, and Vadim,

Thanks for your valuable input on the badge. It is now in the mail, and on the way to the seller for a full refund plus half of the shipping cost. After your input, and further research and comparison on my own, the differences in this badge and an original one became very obvious to me. Best wishes to you all, and I look forward to talking to you again.
                        Steven

hi Steven, good for you. Of course the seller will just put it on Ebay again until someone who does not have the benefit of this forum buys it.
