    Imperial wound badge

    Hello all,

I have some guy sending me PM's stating that this is a black wound badge and not a gold wound badge as I believe it is. Everyone can see the gold finish, correct? The tips of the leaves are polished highlights as well....

    Any thoughts?

I suspect , the guy MAY HAVE found one in better condition after paying you, and likely used the black excuse possibly to get out of the deal ....but IMO, gold and silver washes stick better to pins , and sometimes solder, than the badges , but as i see it, the photos showclear traces of gold wash on front leaves, ribbon etc, especially pin, and the bend part that doubles as a spring, and to me is not showing any evidence of being black...but may have some crud on it...and I like em just as found...maybe thats what he is mistaking as black paint....doesn't appear like paint to me, or there would be more all over, and no gold anywhere , as the gold does not look like paint, but like wash.

        Hello,
From the photos it looks like a really worn gold wound badge. It is not in the condition that I collect, but it does not change what it is.

        Regards,

Most of the gold/yellow colored ones you see that are formerly black badges have a base metal of brass and thus the confusion when the black finish is off. But a gold-ish colored brass is far different from the obvious gilt wash that was once covering this one.
