Is this wound badge a WW1 or a WW2 remake of a WW1?Thanks for any and all help.

Imo late WW1 to more likely 1920s production - keeping in mind WBs were not instituted until 1918.

It was sold to me by a forum member as a late war WW1 wound badge.So I guess I bought a low level piece of JUNK from the 20's.I give up I am done...................I mean when you can't even get what you pay for on the e-stand it is time to QUIT!If I had known it was a piece of 20's era junk I would not have bought it.I trusted(I don't even remember)the forum member and that's that.Thanks again for all the help.

Really? You think a 20's made SWB is junk? Send it over to me. I'll gladly give it a home. Some German soldier who was wounded several times during the Great War likely obtained that medal when he got home and settled his nerves and recovered. Tons of medals and wound badges were awarded in the 20's. American Purple Hearts weren't issued quite often until the 30's for WIA's from WW1. Are those junk?

Yea I think it is JUNK..............No I do not think that American Purple Hearts are that were issued quite often until the 30's for WIA'S are JUNK.Why would you ask such a question as that??????????

Hi Dennis,

The WB in question is certainly NOT junk. If it's made from steel, there's a reasonable chance it may still be WW1 issue. Keep in mind, similar to US WW1 purple Hearts (which weren't even instituted until 1932), WW1 German Wound Badges were still genuinely being issued as late as 1936. Further, unless there is solid provenance, it's impossible to say whether a WW1 WB that was produced from a pre-November 1918 die, was actually made before or after November 1918. A very similar situation to late WW2 v KW US wings.

The example in question appears to be a good example of an earlier production badge.

That's about as good as you are going to get without rock solid provenance.

Thanks to all for all your help..............I guess you are right the SWB is NOT junk. What I don't understand is the pin set up as it is like a needle and not as thick and blunt on the end like the ones I have seen here.It seems too thin to be on a military uniform.I do not know wound badges like you guys that's why I asked about this one being post war or not.I paid for a war time production not post war........I am sure you can understand that I want to get what I pay for and not something else.If the seller said 1920's model I would not have bought and that's that.I look at the ones on dealer sites like the CG and they all have the thick pin with blunt end and catch set up.I have yet to see one with the pin set up like mine.

Well, it is an original one at least. Is it magnetic? The wartime issue ones were due to a shortage of tombak. After the war ended and tombak became available that changed. If you aren't happy throw it on the estand and let it find a new home.

And like Mike said, they were issued into the 30s so it may still have been an issue badge.
