    Frank,

Thanks for sharing your fathers story. Excellent display!

    I once flew in a B-17, B-24, & a B-25. Next, I want to fire an 88 round.

      Frank,

Thanks for sharing your father's medals, without a doubt, these are the medals of a very brave man. Did your father ever receive the silver wound badge, or the bronze NKS when the 1957 versions were authorized?

        Dear Roy,

No, he did not. But one has to understand that my father wanted nothing less than having to do with anything "war" for many decades after the war. So he certainly did not apply. Even today, talking with him about the war is difficult and limited, although he talks about OTHER things like a book.
        Cheers, Frank

HI again Frank very nice to know your father was in German army too and

also few nice orders he got for bravery.I would like show few photgraphs of

my father who was also in German army.He was not in any famous unit and

no high awards but he participated in various war places at west and east

front. He start military duty with SA wehrmanschaft units in Ober Krain for

duty against partisans units in Ober Krain and Staiermark region in Slovenija

(at that time III Reich).Latter he was conscripted in German army as other

40.000 Slovenians. He was member of 9./FG.RGT.51 until 03.06.44 and after

that he was transfered to Freistadt in June or July 1944.From there on no

info except that he was captured in Austria at Pregarten betwen 09.05.45

and 13.05.45.After he returned home he was sent to prison because he

collaborate with German authoritys and then he was sent to fullfil duty

with Yugoslav army for three years.Unfortunateley I dont have any of the

III Reich documents from my father except fewphotos.Reason for that is

that he was traitor for his country and he destroyed all documents

and papers conecting him with German army.In those days you can lost

your head for minor mistake. At last he was lucky enough he survived

revenge of Yugoslav authoritys. Many of his friends did not.

Here is few photos befor war from war and after war.

          Regards

                        Frank, CVRC,

Absolutely no need to apologise for adding some REAL HISTORY to the bits of metal we all chase after!

Frank, re the minor die differences between the two badges, I'd've guessed your dad's would have been produced after CVRCs example as it's easier to add negative relief in a die (ie produce a positive feature like a pimple) than to add positrive relief and forma dimple! Still, interesting to note a tombak badge with an early type hinge/pin/catch system awarded in 43! ? old stock?

                        Regards
                        Mike K

PS: whatever happened to the big old archive section anyway??
                        Regards
                        Mike

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

If you PM/contact me without the courtesy of using your first name, please don't be offended if I politely ignore you!

                          Nice photos guys!

As for the missing 'dots' on some WB's the answer is Frank's father award and personaly i have seen few and all with the same back assemblies and this make me to believe that was a strike by a firm but in limited time.

As for copper hollow WB's, i have sen a couple of them and i don't know if they ok but all was looking to be original strike.

                            What a coincidence!
Just today I received a pair of wound badges, and one of them has this same type of background. No one has any ideas as to maker, value or rarity?

As you can see there is almost no black paint left on either of them. Evidently the Vet thought it would be a good idea to polish these bad boys up!

Frank- thanks for sharing info on your father. Not only is it fascinating, but it's also proof positive that these types of badges are 100% OK!

CVRC- Do you have a scan of the back of your badge, as it looks like the pin & catch set up is a little different on mine & Frank's badges?
