    Double marked L/16 GWB

    Hello all,

Textbook including the finish, correct? The catch on the S&L looks a bit different than the normal zinc version that I am use to seeing.

    Hello again,

Anyone else have an opinion on the GWB's finish, does it look OK?

I notice in places where the paint is missing it has more of a silvery oxidised finish, and if you flip the pin open, where the pin is closest to the hinge the badges finish is missing where the pin touches the badge above the hinge on the back side, and missing in that place when flipped down to the hooked position. The finish is well done ,although , the photos lighting doesn't lend itself to make a proper decision on the leaves or the outer edge where other paint is missing . It appears like a sprayed gold finish done when the pin was in the wide open position ,as its line is clearly discernable on the pin. I would think the badges pin would have been finished prior to assembly, and no finish would be missing in any areas . Could it possibly be this was a repainted silver? So anyway I think you need to look at it closer in hand and see if you detect any other finish that looks silver in spots where paint is missing, or is that a dark primer. I haven't an L/16 GWB or even silver so I can't compare it , and dont have a wound badge book. The silver I have no idea about. I do know the gold was added after the pin was pressed on, and cannot be removed , so the question to the WB experts is : Is the rounded hinge pin correct for a 16, and if so, and the badge is deemed original, could it possibly be an upgraded silver, or done by a dealer to turn it into a gold , or was it done that way By the maker , as I would think if that was the case it would be the baked on finish, but why would they bake it with the pin on? It seems like it may have been worn for a short period as the back side of the hook appears worn on the radius that would hit the uniform,or worn from being in a case , but being marked like that makes me feel it is an earlier badge . Sorry I can't give the silver bullet, but I'm sure it will get lots of comments from the experts , and when it does, maybe they can answer some of my concerns aforementioned. I like it , but I have been fooled before . The silver doesn't impress me as much, but that shot is kinda blurry to see it well enough. If repainted , or fakes, and found together , may condemn both, as many times if i find a fake in a group, it makes we at times suspect them all. does either smell like paint at all?

                Hi William,

The finish looks very suspect to me as well, but admit I am not a big WB guy. Hope Andreas, Hans or Ronny will chime in here soon.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

                    Hi guys,

i am the one that asked William to put it up for discussion. The badge is IMO refinished.
                    Regards
