Perhaps this has been discussed before, but since I recently saw this cased L/53 Black Wound Badge listed on a friend's website, I thought it would be of interest to wound badge collectors.
militaria-berlin.de offered and sold this boxed L/53 Black Wound Badge, which included an LDO quality-control note, which informed the recipient that should his award not be a "flawless" example, that it could be exchanged for a faultless example:
In German:
Die Herstellung von Orden und Ehrenzeichen unterliegt die Kontrolle der Präsidialkanzlei. Der Hersteller ist verpflichtet, mangelhaft gelieferte Stücke gegen einwandfreien Ersatz umzutauschen.
In English:
The production of orders and awards is controlled by the Präsidialkanzlei (Executive Office of the President - This office was responsible for orders and awards). The manufacturer is obligated to exchange defective examples with flawless replacements.
Man, talk about customer satisfaction!
