    Gold Wound Badge L/14

    Hi Guys,

I was hoping you could give me some help with this particular wound badge before I take the swoop. It has a fluted pin which is something I personally never saw on a wound badge but looks convincing.
Not the usual Floch fake of the L/14 with the EK type pin setup plus the mm is stamped rather than raised. A new one for me
Pics are borrowed from a dealers site, hope he doesn;t mind.

    Thanks in advance

      Hi Patrick,

Well it's not the same as my silver L 14 for the points you've already raised, it also appears to be from a different mold also.

Strange pin that for a wound badge, I've seen a similar style on an L 53 KVK of mine.

I can't help sorry, maybe some of the others can.

      Kind regards,

      Marcus

As far as I know there are no original wound badges with a pin like this.

          Hi Guys,

Thanks for your replies so far. Marcus, I remember when you posted your KVK, that was the first and only I've seen with a fluted pin which is one of the reasons why I didn't automatically discount this as a bad piece.
Don, I never saw an original with a fluted pin but i don't know of a fake like this either. What do you think of the wear/absorbtion of the gold finish? It looks pretty convincing on the pic of the obverse???

          Any other opinions.... Frank, Chris?

          Many thanks, Patrick

Look at the finish on the obverse. You have more finish on the high spots (swaz, sword handles) than on the low spots. That doesn't look right to me.

              Dear Patrick,

I don't like this WB at all. The hinge seems to me that is applied from someone recently, the pictures is bad but i don't like the finish and the overall appearance of the award. Last but not least excellent "L/14" fakes exist, i'll stick only with the STAMPED maker marks with the concentric hinge rings.

Thanks, I will pass on this one. Thought it could be an interesting variant but guess that 'textbook' is much safer!

                Best to all.

So are there any good L/14S out there? All the ones I have seen marked l/14
                  are fake. Opinions please

                    Dear Don,

From MY personal point of view the only type that i accept for original 'L/14' WBs is the the ones that are STAMPED the maker marks below catch and if my memory serves me well all the examples i have seen are made from non- ferrous materials. I have heard that exist another type with RAISED makers mark letters in the middle of the badge made from zink with small barrel type hinge and hook type catch this time but i'm not sure about them but logically must exist another original type from the above, for now i feel comfortable only with stamped 'L/14' maker marks.
I'm little lazy right now to take some pic's of mine but i'll post one from Detlev's past updates.

I have a pic for a gold one from the other type i mentioned:
Notice the strange berries in the sword blades in the above position, the right one almost touching the blades edge!

Thanks for the info Chris. I hope you can add a picture of your example to
the thread, that is when you feel less lazy. I think many collectors have
                        just saw the fake
