    Cased GWB mm 30...

    It seems to be that there are a lot of cased gold wound badges mm30 in mint or near mint condition on the market.

    -Was there a horde find a while back?
    -Did a military unit stumble upon the factory at the end of the war?

    Am I the only one that thinks this? I did a quick search and didn't find any similar threads.

    I don't know it but getting a mint 30 wound badge was only a question of money since ages ... a common maker with a high output of stuff imo.

        I too have noticed that several mint cased 30's have popped up on the E-Stand lately.

        But none of them have had any problems that have been noticed so the idea of a common maker with lots of supply out there makes sense.

        They are still very good looking sets.

          Hauptmunzampt Gold Wound Badge

          Perhaps the Maker marked 30 gold would badges in the case were sent to family members of the Killed in Action. This could account for the fairly common occurance of this GWB. Hauptmunzampt (30) was an official mint of the German government located in Vienna. Of course the family of the KIA would have no reason to separate the case from the badge as it was an official award to the family for the loss of a beloved son, husband or father. The German government also issued certificates to family who lost a loved one.

          Just a thought.

            I picked up two unissued cased (30) GWBs and a cased (30) SWB fifteen years ago from an US Italian campaign vet. He got them and a mix of unissued cloth insignia in Meran at the end.

              Agreed.
              Hauptmunzampt was a common maker for the GWB and the fact that individuals killed in action were posthumously awarded the gold grade would explain why I see so many.

                This maker is early and major producer of WB's, known for the design and quality...is sought after maker for the collector.
