Jørn Schmidt- The black WB you posted it is ok and don't know if this is normal but you can find in some badges three maker marks!
L/56 is known maker for these awards.

Mike - IMO this is the other type of the questionable L/14. It has the similar design with the L22 and this design with the additional berries etc is heavily copied with hollow and solid issues unmarked and maker marked, I have seen several Gold grades of that type alone or with fake cases. All of the above makes me no comfortable.

Greg - Mike is right double maker marked '100' and 'L55' exist, the L55 mark for all the double maker marked was about in the middle of the badge on Detlevs badge is below the catch, uncommon but as Mike said perhaps it is only L55 marked.

Tomorrow i 'll have more time and i'll try to organize the list of the makers so far.

      Hi,

Chris, interesting comments about my L14 (no slash). All I can say is that it has exactly the same die characteristics as my L22, also the same dimensions. Both badges have raised rectangles as guides for the hinge, although neither hinge fits inside this raised box. Both badges are quite thin and are nicely die struck/trimmed.

IMO, if my L14 is a repro (which came with an undocumented Afrika cufftitle and Bronze Panzer Badge grouping from a German collector), then so is my L22 (which came with a grouping from a German family), which means that all other L22s I've seen which are regarded as genuine (not the obvious castings) are, in fact, also reproductions.

I'm sorry Chris, I respect your opinion and knowledge but in this case I don't share your concerns over the L14 I've imaged above.

      Regards
      Mike K

I think you've got most of mine already, but here's a list of my current maker marked Wound Badges anyway-

            Black (Hollow)

            "3"
            "16"

            Silver (Solid)

            "L/16"
            "26"
            "65"

            Gold (Solid)

            "30"

If anyone would like scans of any, just let me know.
            Regards,
            Chris

I think I have a few that have not been mentioned yet:

              1) Black Wound Badge marked '103' in relief for Aug.G.Tham of Gablonz
              2) an unmarked Black Wound Badge with issue envelope marked to Rudolf Karneth of Gablonz
              3) I have two unmarked Black Wound Badges in issue envelopes marked to Rust & Hetzel of Vienna
              4) an unmarked Black Wound Badge in issue envelope marked to Alois Rettenmaier
              5) an unmarked Black Wound Badge in issue envelope marked to Fritz Kohm of Pforzheim
Sorry if I repeated any already mentioned.

                Hi dear Tom,

This doesn't mean that your WB bags are fake but WB packetes are heavily reproduced with different and fantasy makers, sometimes good unmarked ( mint most of the times ) WBs coming with the reproduced bags for selling purposes.

I forgot to mention my theory of the genuine packets, spesific for those that printed with unkown makers and having unmarked WBs:

I believe that the unmarked awards are made from some known makers and the bags are printed in other and different firms with the packet firms has nothing to do and are not envolved with the production of the WB.
Of course this is not a rule and simply MY theory.

                    Hello everyone,

might I suggest you make this a "sticky" one? This way it will be easily accessible and can be updated with new facts, findings and maybe photos?

                    Just a thought.

                    All the best
                    Yannis

                      Hello Chris,

I am pretty certain that all of my Wound Badges are original, as well as the issue envelopes. I don't know what you are referring to by "fantasy makers". The makers that I listed were all legitimate manufacturers during the Third Reich Period. Here is an unmarked Wound Badge that I have owned for a long time. The issue envelope is marked to Rust & Hetzel of Vienna.
                      Best regards! Tom Yanacek

Here is a Wound Badge in Black, marked in relief '107' with the issue envelope marked to Carl Wild Metallwarenfabrik Hamburg 24. This issue envelope is quite a bit smaller than the typical issue envelope.
