Any suggestions on how to remove spots of rust from a BWB?

I would say: leave it the way it is. I think you could do more harm than good.

I tried to clean one of my BWB with a flecken teufel once which corroded through shipping, but it's not changed.

A dab of WD-40 on a Q-tip just to remove the loose stuff and stop the rusting process.

I'll give this a try. The badge has a few spots on the back which appear to just be on the suface. Hopefully they can be scraped off.

Do not scrape them off, just rub gently with a q-tip and WD-40 as Don says.

Could you post a before and after picture. I am, and perhaps more, are interested in the result.

Here is the "before" picture. I don't have the badge in hand so it's hard to tell if the spots are rust or dirt or both.

Hello Nellis

You can use some water free vaseline on small rust stains
Now surely someone will say that the Vaseline is only for zinc badges

But I have used vaseline on small stains of rust and it works great
the stain disappears and are protected against further corrosion

I'll take your advice and post a picture when I'm done. I trust your opinion because I know you have a huge wound badge collection.
Detailed pictures usually show too many details and the badge should look better in hand!!

That one doesn't look too bad to me, I personally would leave it as is. But if you do decide to proceed please post pictures, I wouldn't mind seeing how it turns out.

Comrade Ronny has right the best thing for the rust is indeed vaselin on steel awards, who clean the majority and protect from further issues, WD 40 is nicer on pin-hinge problems...

I couldn't resist such a rare maker, plus Ronny's advice worked magic!! Here is the "after" shot!! I'll be using vaseline on all of my badges!! I missed a few spots but it looks perfect when holding in your hand. Blurry photo
