    Wound badge on wool?

    I just picked up a bunch of medals and badges from a friends grandfather.Can anyone tell me what the piece of wool was used for on the back of this wound badge.By the impression of the badge on the wool its been there along time.

    If the wool fragment has loops on it through which the wound badge pin went, then the fragment is simply a piece of a uniform tunic that was cut off along with the badge.

      Heres pics of it.It dont look like a piece just cut off a uniform?Looks like it was made this way.Notice the 2 sets of holes in it.

        Actually it looks like the wool backing is from the balkan or crimea campaign shield ..wool went between front and rear mounting plate and back was covered with paper..the shields holes went thru the wool to the plate..Billbert
