Silver S&L WB in a new light......

    Hi all,

I've just been very kindly donated an Epson 3490 PHOTO by my father in law which I am very impressed with. I've been looking into the Epson scanners for a while and this freebie came with open arms!

That aside, my first practice scan piece by chance was my (always believed to be) Silver S&L WB. I say 'believed to be' because it is predominantly silver and was bought as such, but has always had a golden hue around the bottom edge. I put this down to a Silver award made from tombak that has worn the coating away on the uniform showing through the bronze hue of the base metal.

But now under my lovely new scanner it looks like a zinc based award with the remnets of an originally gold coating?

    What are your opinions?

If (which I am pretty much convinced that it is) my Silver WB is in fact Gold, I will now have to be on the hunt for a replacement as I have already got a beautiful tombak piece in gold which is my first TR award purchased as a boy and is still one, if not my most favourite of my collection. It is a really honest seen it deserved it award!

Scanners are handy but not good like cameras...the colors don't do justice

And yes i think and my self your zink WB is gold, of course much nicer the tombak one...

Why not hang on to both?

good news and bad news, the zinc is a very faded gold but the tombac 30 is a very worn down silver, you can see the original finish on the back

So my silver is gold and my gold is silver eh?! Who'd have thought it! Oh well, I think they will stay where they are in my display cabinet as they look great how they are, even though they are the opposite of how they appear!

                Thanks for the input.
