Hello All,
Found a BWB among a group I have; the Berechtigungsausweiss is dated Oktober 1942, but the VWA is listed "in mattweiß", so, the correlation of this BWB to a date is probably not relevant.
I find the BWB unusual in that it has a rather shallow draw to the edge - the height is only 2.15mm (measured on the wreath ribbon) versus 2.45-3.50mm for every other BWB in my collection. This small difference is very noticeable and at some points around the edge the height is only 1.66mm. They also chose to leave the extra material/rim around the circumference of the edge, rather than grind/file it flush. I am assuming this is just a manufacturing anomaly - maybe the blank was slightly undersized before stamping, resulting in a lack of material at the edge...an interesting specimen, nevertheless.
I am curious as to the maker, if anyone can help there. The measurements are 44.3 x 36.8mm. The badge is steel, as are the knurled pin and hinge. The catch is brass.
Thanks!
Eric
