I have one just like it. Mine you can actually see where the swastika was. I aquired it from a co-worker of my father's who served in the wehrmacht on the russian front. The wound badge was actually from a relative who was taken prisoner by the British. According to him, the relative was told he could keep his medals, as long as the swastika was removed.

Hi,
It appears to be a genuine de-nazified zincer. I can't tell from your pics, but the colour of the finish around the hinge and catch will tell you if it was a Gold or Silver grade. What I can't figure out at all is what the maker mark hiding under the pin is - a boxed 3??

That is a mark I have not seen on a WB before!!! It is the maker mark for Wilhelm Deumer, Luedenscheid. Normally their WBs are marked with their LdO number of L/11. What a pity the swas is missing!

While it is a shame this one has had the swastika removed......nevertheless it is quite a rare find. The only other unmolested example I have seen is owned by WAF member Graeme S.
Infrequently, I will run across an EK1st Class or KVK !st Class with this boxed 3 maker mark. The wound badges share this crude 3 font style, and I have seen a KVK 1st marked in this crude font way. The other boxed 3 marks I have seen, (not on wound badges) use a cleaner and more rounded 3.
