This type of hinge exists on some wound badges not many thought, badges from L/15 Otto Schickle
have a hinge similar to this one. There could be others too

Not always but 99% of all wound badge pins have a small dent just over the hinge
I can post some pictures if you don’t know what I mean.

    Cheers,
    Ronny

Hello Ronny, so in your opinion as a wound badge collector is this badge that started this thread a new age fake or what? As I need to get this cleared up, as I do not want this dragging on. As IMO the badge is a nice authentic one, the hardware is period type but less common as you have pointed out. I think I know what your talking about regarding small dents on the pins above the hinge on most authentic ones, you can post a picture anyways to point this out.

      Cheers,

      Kai

Hmmm intresting WB we have here... at first sight it looks questionable, wave dot patern, 'fresh' for my eyes material, although the hinge looks correct and is not match with the fakes I have seen...
To accurate my opinion i want to see a close up photo of the catch the base how is applied because it looks like a hook type (?) and on hollow examples this type of catch is palced of somekind of ISO in makers taht used them, also an overall photo of the catch i;ll like to see.

PS: I;m wondering the 3rd photo posted by Hans what make him believe that is fake because exist original WB with that kind of hardware and i call it 'GAB' because has been found on GAB;s and is a still uknown maker, although i don;t know if the award is posted is fake from the original.

Identical to the one Ronny posted, the flaws are like fingerprints and match 100%.

Chris, the 3rd BWB i posted resides in my fake reference collection. It´s made in a zincish material and the finish is modern. Look carefully and you´ll notice the clear evidence of casting just above the hinge.
            Regards
            Hans N

Don´t throw away your fake WB´s! Get in touch with me.
I collect them for reference purposes for the benefit of the hobby (for the right "fake" price of course).

O.K. Hans you say the badge matches the fake 100%? So where did the fake badge come from, as it was probably copied from an original badge IMO. What about the hardware, or am I going round in circles here chasing my own tail. I have had fakes before that were copied from an original, does that mean my original that it was copied from is a fake as well because the design may match in a way. I still say the badge that started this thread off is an original TR period BWB as I have heard no solid proof so far to say 100% that the badge that I sold to Jason is a fake.

Hans i'll not change your mind but exist original WB with this GAB hardware, as i said i don't know about the spesific one... in a few days i come back with a tribute.

In our issue now, well when we encounter an unmarked example and has some specific or unique points and we don't have something to compare with, like marked examples or other kinds of awards we can be fooled more easily, this is the honest mistake...

The WB as was afraid and my self is FAKE.... modern copy and very well made, correct weight, dimensions finish etc, the giveaway points are already mentioned plus over the time if you storage them well they started to 'ill'
Can be found also and as packeted with fakes of course bags bearing the firm of Fritz Kohm

                The twin brother...

Hello Chris, thanks for your input into this! I am in shock that this badge is a repro!! I was 100% certain it was authentic after all my checks etc, I have now just learned something very new today. I would say the badge was stamped though as I could not see any cast marks on it! Even a BWB is not even a safe buy anymore, and I thought I had these badges sussed over all the years I have been collecting them!! Jason PM is on its way mate!!

                              Hello Kai,

i am afraid that nothing is safe in terms of TR stuff today. We all get burned from time to time in some way.

Hi Hans, I have now just learned another valuable lesson with this badge today! This is why the Forum is such a great resource of info for everyone, not just the guys starting out collecting this stuff!

                                Cheers,
