I am with Ronny on this one.
Even from the poor pics one can see the "finger prints" on both badges (highlighted by Ronny). If you don´t see a match in the badge then why the same "flaws"?

BTW there are already modern made BWB fakes... I have currently 2 types in my fake reference collection.

Don´t throw away your fake WB´s! Get in touch with me.
I collect them for reference purposes for the benefit of the hobby (for the right "fake" price of course).

This is now getting rather silly to say the least! If Jason is not happy with it he can return the badge, and I will then refund his money! As far as I am concerned the badge I sold him is authentic! Look at the badge that started this thread, old paint, period hardware etc! And IMO it is not the same as the one Ronny posted up! If this is a fake then I am getting out of this hobby!

That’s not the way to see things Kai

If my suspicions are right we all have learn something and
that’s what this forum is all about.

If it turns out to be a bad one I am willing to buy it myself for the same price Jason
        paid for it.

        Cheers,
        Ronny

Hi Ronny, I have spent many many years collecting all kinds of militaria. I take allot of pride in my research of my pieces that I purchase for my collections, especially my TR one. I study as much as I can and I do not except a piece into my collection until I am 100% happy with it concerning authenticity etc. I have spent many many hours on the forum and looking through books etc and also handling many period badges. And this one I was 100% happy with. If this turns out to be a bad one Ronny then I am totally lost for words, and yes I would have learned something very new also. As if the fakers have old paint and old hardware sets for their fake badges then we are in big trouble! And if this badge does turn out to be a fake I will send the badge to you free of charge Ronny for your research! That will not be a problem! I will wait for more opinions on this badge from the rest of the wound badge collectors, as IMO it is a good one!

          Cheers,

          Kai

Sorry Kai, but I have my doubts about this badge. Before I cast a full judgement I would like to see some more detailed pictures of the hinge

U-Boat - can you post some obtuse pictures of the hinge form the top, sides and bottom?

I'm confused as to why the catch/pin is brass, whilst the badge is (presumably) steel?

Would manufacturers mix metals or am I seeing things

Yes they did mix materials, I have a couple of ferrous (steel) BWB's with non-ferrous (probably Brass) pins/catches/hinges.

The badge is made from a non- magnetic alloy, maybe zinc? And no probs Mike, the more pictures and opinions on this badge the better!

                    Hello Kai,

Here is one fake for you to judge that is not more than a couple of years old. I am only posting it to proof that judging the paint and hardware is not good enough to determine originality these days. (Has nothing to do with the previous posted WB´s though)

Thanks Hans for the pic. IMO you can still tell the difference between a period paint job and one that was done recently, that goes with the hardware as well, or has all my years collecting these badges and learing about what a real one looks like been for nothing?

                            Hello Chaps,

Light here has faded. Only got a couple of quick shots in. Hope these pics help get a little further on.

                            Cheers,
                            Jason

Any opinions on the hardware? To me this is accepted period type hardware.
