    Fake Gold Wound Badge

    Gents,

My friend has this L/14 marked gold wound badge. I believe this type has been discussed several times on the forum but I could not find surviving photos in any of the old threads. Just thought I would post images of this one as it's quite convincing, especially to the untrained eye.

Let me know if any more scans are needed as I've only borrowed the item. All comments/opinions are appreciated, though I don't anticipate anyone claiming this is real but you never know I may be dead wrong.

    Cheers!

    Adam

        Dear Adam,

Yes, that is a very dangerous fake. Practically impossible to spot by gut feeling, unless you KNOW it is a fake. It was made by Floch who used the same pin as on his fake L15 EK1s.

          Hi Everybody,

I have one of these in my fake pile. For a long time, there was one for sale on Third Reich Depot (probably still there).

          Cheers,
          Toby.

            Adam,
I got burned with one of these a few years back. The worst part was that the seller would not take it back. Extremely well made and finished. If one does not know about Foch and his fakes he will be completly taken in with this badge.

              Hi,

Yep, a bad badge. What makes it worse is that it has also snuck into a reference book - Ailsby's "Collector's Guide to WW2 German Medals"

                Mike,
Ailsby? Doesn't he go by "Warlord" on the Forum? If so, he is a Baloon Badge beliver! If so, that says it all!

If I remember correctly, no wound badge had a coke bottle style pin.

                    Hi,

Chet, Yes and Yes, however the book is generally pretty good, apart from the much questioned high end awards. The book is still available and fairly cheap so I only mentioned it in case a relatively new collector has the book but wasn't aware of this Gold Wound Badge repro in it.

                        You are correct.
At the militaria show I frequent, I see some guy with one of these with a box. He wants $300.00 for it, and I just kind of laugh everytime I see it, because he has many questionable items.
