Kai, have a look at this link -

    http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...highlight=fake

Also have a look at -

    http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...highlight=fake

These fakes appear all over the place. I actually own 3 of them, I bought them as fakes from someone who was selling them as reproductions.

By the way, the auction house in Ipswich deals in coins and militaria - I'm fairly certain they had no idea that the BWBs were fake (or maybe they didn't care - after all they are just selling other peoples stuff).

Hi Mike, thanks for the info! In my experience concerning auctions, most auctions will sell anything as long as they are making money, buyer beware as always! I have had a look at those links on that fake WB, not a nice looker at all, and I see they were also made from magnetic steel, quite an easy one to spot IMO.

      Cheers,

      Kai

Yeah, they are easy to spot - but not to the novice.

Very true Mike! Well, the more info we can get up on the forum regarding any fake WB's that are circulating in the market place the better, to help all of us!!

            Hi Kai,

Thanks for the pics, i'm afraid i don't like your WB's you show.

The S&L WB is a common maker but does not have many hardware set up variations, the only i know so far original other than the known set up by this maker is the small block hinge with a very thin 'c' for catch, pics i;ll post when i will back home.

This type i mentioned is not seen often, only few i have seen so far and in your case you show a bulk of awards with diferent set up, besides the barrel type is similar with the known fakes that exist on the market with packages like Frank & Reif etc...

            Not for my collection.

If you look more carefully, isn;t the same.

Oh yeah? I see 2 badges made by the same die, the only differance is that one of them have a bigger flaw than the other and that indicates that the die was worn down more and more with time and use. Both badges has a rim flaw as well as a flaw around the left hand sword handle...

Using the hardware alone is dangerous since many makers used a wide variaty of hinges and catches on their badges.

I'm feeling a kind of aggressiveness and rudness and i suggest you to be more polite in the future ok?

We can't agree on everything, opinions are opinions and i said mine that i don't like them if you feel ok with these, that`s fine with me. Also if you read carefully
i didn't said that are fakes like others do easily (you know what i mean) if i'm not sure, simply as that.

What? I am being agressive and rude towards you? Where have you read that if i may ask?

All i did say and mean is that you said that you don´t like the posted BWB´s owned by Kai and despite that you have one your self in your collection.

At the risk of getting involved in this alleged "spat" - Chris I do not think Hans was/is being agreesive or rude - sometimes things get lost
in translation and comments can be mis-understood. As both of you are not native English speakers - this exacerbates the situation - "Oh
yeah" is not an agressive term when read in the whole context of Hans reply.

As for the WB's that Hans is comparing - he's right (in my opinion), Chris you have one in your collection and yet are dismissing Kai's as
"not for my collection" - in other words you are expressing a severe doubt as to the originality - yet you have a very similar one in your
collection - this is somewhat contradictory.

I for one like the WB highlighted.

I;m sorry if i misunderstand Hans post, i think Mike you right besides we all here for the same purpose...

As for the WB yes has very good similarities but because recently has been found and recovered some original dies in Austria and Germany and i have spotted a fake from those original dies, - you don;t believe the new fake zink Hauptmunzamt indentical in every aspect with the originals, the only difference is a tiny mark at the edge on every fakes, anyway... - why i have doubts for this type that we talk about who is way different along with setups with the typical style by this maker. Mine WB who is looking indentical with those from Kai was part of vet;s family items and i don;t have any doubt;s.

Plus all the lot has the same glossy finish and this finish if i;m not mistaken encountered in steel examples, supposed we talking for brass type, some have the sharp pointed end on pins some not, some has the die characteristic some don;t , etc and if i remember well i have seen this type for sale as boxed with some red cases who is not for the WB.

Soon i;ll have example for inspection maybe also ask Kai for sending me a couple of examples too.
