    BWB Pics for Chris Varveris

Hi, these are some pictures of my remaining BWB’s of this type that I hope to sell on the estand for Chris and you guys to have a look at. I purchased these badges in a job lot, and some of the L/16 marked ones were inside small LDO boxes at the time, but these boxes turned out to be for the miniature mother’s crosses rather than the WB. But anyhow, I had over two dozen of these badges and these are the ones that I have left.
I know S&L usually used a "C" type catch on their WB's but they also used the type that is on my ones, "round wire catch". I have thirteen of these badges left, four badges with the narrow hinge and round wire catch and nine badges with the barrel hinge and round wire catch. The paint finish to these badges is quite thick and it is hard to make out the makers mark L/16 on most of them that are marked. I count around ten of these badges have the LDO code L/16 on but I can only get a few pictures of this to show, as it is proving very difficult for me to capture the marks because of paint on top of the marks and lighting problems! The other badges have no marks on them that I can see.
Most of these badges are made from tombak and are very high quality made with excellent detail etc.
Well, have a look at my badges and I will look forward to your opinions on them!

    Cheers,

    Kai

Kai, could you post some close up pictures of the hinges of the first 3 badges on the top row (left hand side) in the first picture you posted?

Also you said you got these as a "job lot" - did they come from an auction house in Ipswich?

                    Mike

Hi Mike, O.K. just took some pics of those hinges for you, and these badges along with other stuff came from Germany through a friend.

Kai, I feel better having seen the pics of the hinges; when I initially saw the 3 badges the alarm bells rang - they had a slight look of the recent fakes that have come out of Germany - there were a batch of these sold at an auction house in Ipswich about 6 to 8 months ago.

The hinges on your badges look fine.

Thanks Mike, my friend is a coin and note dealer and he sometimes gets offered TR militaria from his contacts over in Germany when he is over there on business. I have had quite allot of nice stuff through him over the years, including this lot of badges! I purchased these badges over three years ago, and I was 100% sure they were authentic as I had checked them out as soon as I received them and all looked o.k.! I must admit, I was really impressed when I first seen these badges as most of them were in close to mint condition! I never knew anything about an Ipswich auction selling fake WB's, do you have any pics of that type of fake WB Mike?
