1939 1st pattern badge help needed

Would like to run these two first pattern badges by you. My own opinion is that the black is good. The silver i have my doubts about for various reasons but to say I know very little about these would be an understatement. thanks in advance

The silver looks strange - I'm not too worried about the bulbous swaz, but the badge looks totally unbalanced, also what's going on in the rear of the helmet - that bubbling is wierd.

Here's a bulbous swaz example for comparison -

looks like you have the same feelings as me about the silver.Do you see any problems with the black?

The black looks OK, the only little puzzler is the dot pattern on the front just above the bow - but I think that is possibly the result of the attaching of the catch.
