    Badges for War Wounded

I have a small collection of wound awards, of course for Germany it revolves around the wound badge but I always included the badges SA and DRL for war wounded in my collection because it seemed logical.. they are badges awarded for being wounded in war, even severely so.
Speaking to another collector last night, he did'nt think they belonged in a German wound badge collection, I think to be honest he just never thought about it, any other views?

The sports badge was given for completion of various tasks designed to test physical ability, agility and stamina. The sports badge for war wounded was given for the same reason and not because of the wounds them selves. The requirements are not the same and IMHO the sports badge for war wounded should not be considered with wound badges.

I know the sports badges were not awarded for being wounded in itself, that's what the other wound badges were for, my point is you had to have been wounded in war to be eligible to earn one, i.e. not disabled by some other means such as birth defect or getting hit by a bus etc, so there is a connection with getting wounded - no wound no go, IMO

Colin, to me the sports badges were not awarded for receiving a wound, therefore they strictly speaking are not wound badge awards. That said I do take your point that you had to have been wounded in war to receive the badges, but the badges were not awarded as a direct result of the wound but as a sports award - yes the pre-requisite was that you had to be wounded.

To me it's a bit of an open debate, however I do not include these badges in my Wound Badge collection, they would be part of my civil collection.
