Hi John, welcome to the forum!

I would advise you to study originals. Once you know what an original looks like, you wil be able to spot a repro.

We have hundreds of good badges shown here on the forum. When looking to buy a maker marked badge, check the images on the forum and see if it compares. Build a database of pics of good badges.

The badge shown by Don is one of a new generation of fakes. When I started collecting 30 years ago, I never thought that the humble black wound badge would be copied!

        Cheers, Ade.

          Hello John,

Ade narrowed it down pretty good IMO. Follow his advice and study known originals because there is no tell tale on how to spot the bad from the good BWB´s.

Here is another type of modern fake BWB

Don´t throw away your fake WB´s! Get in touch with me.
I collect them for reference purposes for the benefit of the hobby (for the right "fake" price of course).

This one was listed on GCA, and on Detlev´s site.

                  German reproduction (I was told).

Seems to have less of that fake ageing. That one will burn a few collectors.

Don is correct. I believe Mike was hoping to see one of these new fakes with less aging.

John, I know this not much help but these fakes do not feel right when you pick them up. I agree with Ade, I never thought anyone would fake a WB, but I never thought they would fake a drivers badge either. I guess if it is worth a dollar (euro, pound, mark, yen, etc, etc.) it will be faked and sold to who ever will buy.

Of course the problem with any discussion on fakes is that the fakers read it too.

Nordmark, thanks for posting the badge (somehow I missed it on GCA), that's the first one of these fakes that I have seen that has not got the exagerated ageing on it. Yes it's pretty convincing.

Well I guess if they are going to fake a West Wall, why not a BWB as well

                              Mike
