    Steel wound badge question

    When exactly did the Germans start producing steel stamped black wound badges instead of brass stamped?
    Any help would be appreciated

    Most of the steel WB's was produced in mid - late war.

      Steel replaced brass in manufacture of black wound badges around 1 march1942.This coincided with zink taking over as the universal metal used for most war badges and silver /gold wound badges.
