    Dave,

Not sure how much this will help - these are photos of the black grade award on display in the Imperial War Museum in London. No provenance or further information on show, but they might be able to tell you more if you contact them.

    Good Luck and best regards,

    James

              Hi,
              I'll start the ball rolling,
This badge came from a old collection it's the correct size, correct markings and has the fine hand finishing marks on the edges and shows tarnishing in the reseses.

                    Hi James,

The 20 July badge-case from the Imperial War Museum is in my opinion not in an original 20 July case. From this picture it is difficult to give an opinion on the badge itself.

                      Dear Merdock,

I do not think it would be very smart to give all the details on these 20 July badges on the internet(my opinion). The result of this is already seen.

These badges are excessively rare, especially the 2 800 marked ones, wich were the actual awarded ones.

For those who want such a piece in their collection I would suggest to acquire it through a respectable and serious sourse.

                      Pieter.

Perhaps Peter is correct, the bottom line is that a faker wanting to make a fake will, the unfortunate truth in this hobby is getting that items of importance will have history to 1945, as I had stated in the beginning of this thred, I have been wanting a 20 July badge for years and am now in the possition to begin looking. I will be getting one, if I am able to get one , that is attributed to someone, and has provanonce. I will be getting rid of a lot in my collection to get one and will be absolutly sure of it. If some one out there has one that is named and was thinking about perhaps moving to something else, let me know, I am sure we could start some negotiations anyway thanks, if you want to send me photos off line, I am cwodjoyce@aol.com,
                        Thanks

                          WOW

Merdock, I do not know if the example that you posted is real. They were only 24 people including Hitler when the bomb exploded. So they only could have issued 23 ( and 4 died as result of the bomb). So we are talking about a very rare, rare, rare medal.

                          WOW

C'mon guys, if awards of this range are not coming from a trusted source with guarantee, then we talking for a crude or a high end copy, sorry but i'm sticking with this opinion.
Not many collectors have seen and touch a real one, there are very few real examples out there. These days these awards are unobtainable for the availability of them and for the price if ever found one.

IMO more easy you can find swords for the KC or diamond Krieg's badges

Anyway, good luck Dave in your "quest"
