The date and signature actually have a nice burnished look to them, but don't look it in photos - the polished feature doesn't seem to show in pics -

Nicely made pin - but given what these go for when real, why not make them well?

The pebbling in the field is not correct. The pin also is way off.

IMHO the WB is a fake.

From what I remember there is a member of this forum (or is it GCA or GMIC - my memory is fading with old age ) that has a 100% original 44 - do a search and you'll find it.

Right. I agree. However, it's a pretty darn good copy. This post http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...hlight=20+july has a photocopy of a black one on page two and the accompanying award document; you can see the 800/2 are in the lower position, as on my copy. Difficult to see the pin, but it has the coke bottle shape and hinge arrangement like mine as well.

But - a copy is a copy. I'm pleased with this one for show purposes, which based on what I've seen sell at auctions, would no doubt fool many collectors.

Stan, a very nice looking badge. The stippled background looks the same as mine. Could we see a reverse photo? Regards, Robert

                  Robert,

The stippling might look the same from the photos but it is different. Anyway, here is the reverse.

A gorgeous badge. Where on earth did you find it? Regards, Robert

                        20 July 1944 Wound Badge

                        Robert,

It came from the MAX show via a European dealer. Steve Wolfe told me about it and I bought it over in Germany a few months later.

This one from Stan is the "real deal.

Compares 100% to mine in Silver.

(the thread post is an easily detected fake)

I understand mine is a replica. However, it is a real treat during the discussion of how closely mine mimics a good one that a real original has surfaced for discussion. We're really fortunate Stan opted to post his so we could photographically compare them.

Chris, any way you would be able to post the photos of yours? I'd love to see a 800/2 version, if anyone has one - I think our whole readership would benefit from it.

                            Regards, Robert

Stans badge is a very nice piece. These are the ultimate rarity. Very few are known to exist. The remakes of 1960 are also very desirable, also rare.

Yep, Stan's award is the real thing. and if you searching the posts of the Belgian collectors Pieter Verbruggen and RKDEK you will find more pictures of the genuine (cased) stuff. They are indeed very rare and extremely expensive. Not for my budget! I was already happy that I just could hold them in my hands for a minute of two
