    Silver Wound Badge - maker?

I received this Wound Badge in Silver along with few other items awarded to the same man.
I was hoping that someone out there knows who the maker of this one is. I know it is not either a "30" or a "107" made piece as I have examples of these as well as a few pics and the hinge/catch arrangements are very different.

Neither the badge, hinge, pin or catch are magnetic. Any help or ideas would be much appreciated.

    Hello Tim!
Are you sure this isn't a "30" example ? I also have one but it looks very similar.
    Here is mine....

      Hi Tyler,
I am pretty sure it isn't a "30" as my "30" is the same as yours with both the hinge and catch cast as part of the badge?

This one has both the hinge and catch soldered to the badge proper. The hinge simply being a U shaped piece that is bent in a bit to secure the pin. The catch is about half the thickness of the cast one on a "30" and looks like it is cut out of a piece of sheet metal and goes into the badge a bit to make it secure.

I dont think this is an unmarked 30 either.

I have an example of each 30 buntmetal type, one with the needle pin and one with the flat pin, and each of those is a carbon copy of each other.

wide pin on the left, needle pin on the right.

I noticed that both of my 30 buntmetal wound badges hinges have the same type of set up, regardless of the pin. Notice the upside down bell shaped mount for the pin, where the top is wider than the bottom.

The hinge shown initially by Tim is an even peice of metal stock bent at right angles to form the hinge.

Also notice the head of the hinge pin is off center on both examples.

I dont put to much stock in catches that are obvioulsy enhanced by hand. Chances are every one you see will be a little different than the next. Still, basic designs will be followed from badge to badge, despite added hand finishing.

I included this picture to show not only the difference in design to accomodate the pin, but also the flat tip on the needle pin, Compare to the pointy one above.

Since two examples of this wound badge is hardly enough to form any type of an definitive argument, I would appreciate it it others who have an example of a buntmetal 30 marked wound badges could take a look at theirs and either confirm or deny the hinge differences I have provided here.

I have always thought it rather presumptious to just confer that just because a wound badge is similiar to a 30, but unmarked, that it automatically a 30. This seems such a simple design, the hardware unimaginative, that I could easily see these being made by other makers. The question remains though, if so,who?

I would also be interested to know at what capacity the Wien Hauptmuenzamt , or central mint, subcontracted work, if at all. I would expect work from one facility to remain consistant.

Under closer examination I see your point Mark. I also noticed my two thirties had identical pin set up as yours. I will try and examine more carefully next time before I make a comment.
