    New Black WB Marked 107

Just picked up this nice black wound badge marked 107 for Karl Wild. It's pretty mint, probably unissued. Just thought I'd show it.

Here's a better shot of the maker mark. The pin was a bit stiff so I never wanted to force it.

Do you mean the two that should be at the tip of the swords? I barely had time to have a good look at the piece before I had to head to work, but from the pictures it may be. What's up?

Just looked over some pictures and realize that most black WBs have 4 berries or dots at the top, although I guess not all. The paint is thick, but it doesn't look like it is a repaint. Does this badge look ok?

Yes the badge is ok....Steve,if you look at my brass exampe it looks like it has 4 berries.I think this is where he is comming from. Now if you look at my steel it is the same as yours.Maker must have had a couple dies.
                    two berrie must be later
                    Lets have other opinions

here is example of carl wild wb it has a lot more detail i have never seen that type steve the paint seem really thick and lacks a lot of detail im not saying its not original these pictures are not all that great they are a little blury the handles on the swords have a lot more detail than the pics but the badge has a lot of crisp detail even as worn as it is,and note the lack of the 2 berries at 12oclock ?

I have another black WB in my collection that has a similar thick type paint. I believe this may be an unissued or never worn piece, so the paint would never have worn down. These were mass produced items so paint applications could have varied from time to time.

Here's that other Black WB I spoke of. The paint is thicker on this than many I think. It's unmarked. Any ideas on the maker?

Here's the rear. The paint may not be as thick as my 107 but it's thicker than some. I have close on 40 1914 EK2s and the paint thickness, and thus the detail on the cores varies a great deal. The same applies to many badges I would say. How many of these Black WBs were made? A good deal I would say. Paint and quality had to vary, especially under wartime conditions.

I am still trying to find out if they were sprayed or done by the dip tank method.
or both.I worked in a plant in the 70s that used a dip tank to paint thousands of small parts. When dry, could not tell if they were put in the dip tank or sprayed.
