Un-Marked Wound Badges: What To Look For?

I am in the market for a Wound Badge. It seems that most are un-marked. How do you tell an original from an obvious (or not-so-obvious) fake? Black or silver, tips prefered.

Now, You might rag on me for this, but I want to know what to look for when cruising the internet auction websites. I think the thrill of the hunt is one of the best parts of collecting ANYTHING! And getting a great deal is next (Especially since I am on a serious budget).

Thanks for any tips & tricks you can provide,
    John
