A Super Mint Black Wound Badge

    Hello guys,

I just wanted to show here my newly acquired mint black wound badge
It is complete with outer cartonage and it is double maker marked EH and 126.
One question for the experts: I found that this badge is magnetic, I mean the whole badge not only the pin, is this normal??

    Cheers,
    Matteo

              Very Nice wound badge matteo!
Yes, it is normal that Black wound badges can be magnetic as they where sometimes produced in steel instead of brass.
I also have a stone mint black wound badge which is magnetic.

                Hi Matteo,

Alltough I don't have that type off WB in my collection I don't have any problems with the one you are showing. If I remember correctly one of the typical features for this maker is the poor definition on the leafs compared to the rest of the badge that shows good detailing. So as a kind of exception on the rule for ones poor definition is a good sign.

I agree with the other folks, very nice badge.

Don't panic because your badge is from steel and his parts. On WB's you can find non magnetic pin's on magnetic badge and the opposite and combinations, ie: i have an E.S.P. with magnetic pin and non magnetic hinge and catch.

For your reference here one of my 126's made of steel with no magnetic pin/hinge/catch, notice also the pin has not the sharp pointed end.

                      Hello guys,

                      thanks for your comments

Chris, I've just read another thread focused on this badge, you said that usually there's also a third maker mark on the left of the helmet, but can be noticed only under magnification. Could you show the exact spot where to look for it?

                      Cheers,
                      Matteo

Yes in some badges NOT on all badges are a third mark on the left of the helmet, the initials of the firm in very small size 'EH' with the same script as the initials below the hinge.

Have to love this forum! Got a BW with EH and EH and 126!!! Beautiful badge. To my knowledge it's the only one with three maker marks!
