DDR Badge Set-up. looks like TR Piece

    Gentlemen,

Here is a special request. The award shown here is a first emission (1949 - 55) of an East German, Ehrenzeichen der Deutschen Volkspolizei (Decoration of the German’s People Police) badge. From the design of the pin, hinge, and catch this piece looks like a Third Reich award, probably because there is a good chance that the maker of this badge use to produce TR awards as well. It was suggested that I post this badge in this forum to see if any of you could determine a potential maker by the the particular design /set-up the of catch and hinge?

    Best,
    John

      Hi John,

The catch on this badge is imo fairly unique. The only maker I know who used this exact catch, on WBs and Sports Badges, was Wernstein (L/17). The hardware on your badge is extremely similar to my L/17 Silver WB.

Where did Jena-Lobstedt sit after the division of Germany?

      Nice looking badge!

      Regards
      Mike

PS: here's a pic of the reverse of my L/17. The only significant difference I can see is the way the pin is attached.

        Hi Mike,

Thanks for the quick reply . Do you by chance know what city/town Wernstein was located in Germany? Also, any chance of getting a side pic of the hinge?

        Best,
        John

          Hi John,

Hinge pics attached. As you'll see, my WB has a folded over pin whereas your pin is bent and soldered on. Intersting that both pins are flat. Keep in mind that the hardware on my example is early to mid war and I've seen a believable L/17 setup using a needle pin and roundwire catche on a zinc badge.

My previous question, "Where did Jena-Lobstedt sit after the division of Germany"? was asked because that's where Wernstein is listed as being location - Jena-Lobstedt!

          Regards
          Mike
