Wound Badge / Black - Opinions

Hi everyone. Well, I woke up this morning and had a few emails from a colleague who looked over some scans of a few SS items I had and the verdict was depressing. That being said, I decided that I would list some other items here on the forum to get an informed opinion.

First let me say that I am very much "green" in the area of collecting German militaria. For twenty years I have collected post WWII German police insignia, which as a result I came up with scattered pieces from the war. I would like to expand my collecting field and would appreciate any assistance in determing which items I have are authentic and which I need to disgard. I will be trying to list them under their own topics in the approriate catagories.

With that in mind, I offer up a Wound Badge (Black) Medal for your review and comments. The back is marked "4"( Would this be for the firm Steiner & Luck / Ludenscheld ??).

Thank you once again for your knowledge & assistance.

    Andrew

Text book Steinhauer und Luck - cheeky little '4' in the helmet on the reverse is an extra bonus.

          Thanks

Hey guys, I appreciate the posts. As a newbie I am desperately trying to learn as much as I can and sometimes it can be quite overwhelming.

There is a gun show here this weekend that I have attended several times in the past and have noticed a number of militaria folks. I can't wait to go, but I am obviously going to have to proceed with much caution.

          Thanks again !!

          Andrew

              Chris

Sorry for the delay in posting back a response. Been down with the flu. I'd complain about the weather, but there are a lot of folks worse off.

I will say that this forum is a remarkable place filled with a tremendous wealth of knowledge. Thats a good thing, because on the flip-side of the coin every day I spend here I realize what a complete idiot I am !!!!!!

I just got bad news on a SA Sport Award badge that turns out to be a fake. I know.......... who fakes a bronze sport award ?!?!?!?!

So far I am up to five pieces in my collection that are bad. But the cost for me has been fairly small compared to others.

On a side note, there is a small amount of rust on the edge. Any advice on treating this ?

              Thanks,
              Andrew

                Hi Andrew,

EVERYTHING has been copied and fakes are out there of every militaria, this forum is the best home for preventing this

As for the rust, i don't have a particular tip for it, personally i'm leaving as is and the badge is looking more combative...

I'd take off the loose rust with a toothbrush (soft) and then clean it with a degreaser for example WD40. Rust never sleeps, so it could eat away your whole badge

I agree with you 100%, with all the fakes out there the mistake could have been a lot more costly. The dilemma facing me right now is do I risk purchasing at shows, with my limited knowledge, or try to find a reputable dealer to go through exclusively?

As for the rust, I think I'm going to try and remove as much as I can. The badge made it through WWII, the least I can do is treat it well

I buy most of my items from the e-stand.

It's been the easiest way to build up a small but quite nice collection.

                        Regards...

                          E-Stand

Yeah, I think that for the time being, the E-Stand is the best choice for me as well. I have already ID'd a few items there that I am interested in and have contacted the parties. I would really like to begin to add some nice pieces to my collection.

                          Thanks,
                          Andrew
