Can anyone tell me if you think this was a sliver wound badge or a black one that someone painted silver. It seems to me that most of the silver badges I have had was solid backed. Where this one is stamped. Many thanks! Mike

Hi Mike,
Imo, it's been repainted. The reverse looks to have 60 years of crud on it, the obverse looks polished and, where the silver is worn, looks to have a nice "enameled" black finish underneath. Does the silver finish come off easily? Maybe try some acetone as has been suggested in an IAB thread on another forum.

Mike,
I agree with Mike K.
IMO there were stamped brass silver wound badges. I have one I believe to be good. Stamped brass with silver paint over a silver grey paint base coat. There is no indication of any black paint which is quite easy to tell as most of the silver and base coat are missing. I'll try to post a pic later.
