Tombak L/52 WB´s ?

Hi,
are there known massive L/52 Wound Badges out of Tombak and not Zinc ? I only know the Zinc version.

I would like to know about L/52 wound badges in general. I only have one badge in my photo files, which does appear to be zinc. This particular badge has a wide swollen pin (somewhat unconventional for wound badges). The setup features recessed hinge and catch plates similar to Zimmermann 20 marked German Crosses.

I'm not sure who the badge belongs to......perhaps it is yours, as you are familiar with a zinc type.

I would appreciate seeing any L/52 marked wound badges.

This is the known type that described by Dennis, this maker is rare for the WBs and the tombak WBs by him are more rare.

I'm looking too for a solid type by this maker, i only have in my collection his hollow issue.

I'm very happy with this badge. It has slept for over 20 years in a little collection of a friend of mine. I purchased that collection recently.

There is another tombak wound badge in this collection. I will show it in a new thread. Your opinions on that are very wellcome!

That's a nice badge Guido, here's his older brother . The only difference is the maker mark is positioned on the other side of the needle.

Chris, I'm curious about the manufacturing technique. The normal way to produce these solid badges, would be to die-forge them, correct? I can't find any shear marks what so ever on this one, leaving it with the only option of being die-cast. What's your take on this?

Really nice badge!

I don't think it has been cast though. I think "coined" might be a better term. It appears to have the standard early "30" obverse, which were typically die struck. I'm guessing that the edges have been heavily/neatly hand finished, maybe even buffed, to remove all traces of the die strike. I've seen this on other early wound badges.

Thanks guys . Mike, I think you're probably correct, there are slightly angled diagonally scratches. I was just about to get an image from my scanner, when it all of a sudden stopped working . My attempts to do it with my camera failed, but here are at least two images of the catch and hinge.

"Old brothers" hinge, catch and pin looks very similar to my one.
And there are also these slightly scratches at the edge.
