It seems to be a rather early piece with a gold finish/primer under the black finish, The makermark is clearly hand applied manually

Very nice badge. Could we conclude that badges with this flaw inside the helmet are made by S&L? Or does it just mean it is from the area of Lüdenscheid,

I've seen many badges with this flaw but cannot pull one up so quick,

Correct me if this is already the case btw,...

        Hello Mats,

i noticed that flaw as well and was thinking the same as you but at the time being i have no answer to it but it´s quite possible. I guess time will tell

Here is one with the same flaws. Apologies for the trademarks, this is not my badge,
It is being offered for people interested,

Mats I´d say that is a unmarked (by the looks of it) Steinhauer & Lück and matches my badge 100%.

                  Hi Hans,

Very nice pick up, always nice to see hand marked items making them a little more interesting than integral marks.

Nicely noted on the flaw guys, I think it could certainly be attributable to S&L, unless we know of others with this flaw that have other marks ofcourse.

Mine is the first one that i have seen maker marked that i can remember. But with that said i have vague memory seeing a S&L marked on the rim but sadly i can´t find any pics anywhere of it.

Nice one Hans and a hard one to find

I might have a twin or two to your badge
I will see what I can find in my drawers

I have also considered this flaw to be attributed to S&L

                      Cheers,

Another one I found on the web that has the same mm and flaws,

Hope you don't mind me posting these photos, I think it's good for the archive,

Thanks for posting, another good one of this uncommon variant with the flaw.
