Thats a coincidence because I think I saw the same SS Shutze tinnie for sale on a militaria stall in a local town market just yesterday. I didn't look at it for too long more of a glance as I am all spent out this month. Its a shame because I have bought a few low cost pieces from the stall holder which all seemed good.

Another stall holder on the same market a few weeks ago was selling a Deutschland Erwache badge which was blatantly modern looking repro which I tactifully explained to the guy who just replied that he thought it was unissued

        Ugh.

So... I guess the seller figures $25 for the fake SS tinnie, and $15 for the "bonus" party day pin. Isn't that a "sports" eagle??

          *(^&%*%&$^*%*&( Fakes !!

It never ceases to amaze me what is faked. What's more amazing is the varying quality of fakes. A friend of mine went home to Prague and brought me back some "pieces" including an enlisted SS belt buckle (excellent fake), an EK1 (not even close - a real laugher, it was so bad), an anti-partisans badge (mediocre at best) and a U-boat badge (not bad, but definitely a fake).

As Yancy pointed out, old Manions catalogs, even some new ones, show quiute a few repros...

Fake tinnies - hard to fathom....

            FAKES

            Hello,

J.Knoble do you still have the fake SS shutze tinnie? If so can you post a clearer pic of the front and back? The one thing too thats hard to miss is the price- the fake SS tinnies that ive seen have never been more than $50-All of you reading this thread obviosly collect/have an interest in tinnies,so you all know the fair market price for SS tinnies-I rarely encounter original SS tinnies for sale and if i do there around $150-$200,So when someones selling them for $25-50 bucks-theres something wrong!Im sure its not gonna be long before someones flooding ebay with them-burying them in the backyard for an aged look!!just judgeing by the amount of FAKE SS tinnies that dealer had at the gunshow, someone is MASS producing them

              SS Tinnies

I saw one recently on a dealer's site...A "Heinrich" SS tinnie for $300+ dollars!!!

Not "Heinrich" Himmler, but the "other" one, with which Himmler had some sort of affinity. I can elaborate if you are unsure of what this means.

These tinnies are really going up in price. I have a set of about 25 which I am going photograph all together in one pic to post sometime soon (my personal "Mount Rushmore" of tinnies), the collective value of which would buy a very nice cased DKiG w/document and mini, or an "entry level" KC.

Not many of our fellow forum members know this. I don't need to tell James or Stuart or Kevin or Richard or Yancy or Mike (who did I miss?) this. They know already.

Maybe we better stop posting them before too many more members jump on the bandwagon and prices really skyrocket!

                Best kept secret....

Tinnies are very interesting and fun to collect, but most of the membership seem to stay away from them and concentrate on other things... better for us....

Look forward to seeing your Mt Rushmore, Ralph !!

Could that have been Reinhard Heydrich ?

                Best Regards-

                Kevin

Kevin I think Ralph was refering to Heinrich the Fowler a Germanic king from the middle ages,Himmler had some idea that he was the reincarnation of the "Fowler King",he even had a team out searching for the grave of his hero.Apparently they found the supposed site, but when it was opened, guess what no body !,however Himmler had already been told that the grave had been discovered. So our enterprising SS archeologists nipped down to the local cemetry, dug up a skeleton, popped it into the "Fowlers" grave,Himmler turns up next day for opening of the grave, everybodies happy, promotions all round.Any way I think thats what I read

On the subject of the fake SS Schutze Tinnies,a few years ago when I first started collecting Tinnies I bought the 3 Manions "Tinnies of the Reich" books, and this badge is listed as a fake and valued as "worthless" (I wonder where he got the $40 price from then).

Anyway next time I look at the Manions site ,guess what there is the self same badge, listed as original. So I fires off an Email, and 2 days later the man himself replies to say" that he had always considered this to be a fake, however on a recent buying trip to Germany he had bought this piece, which was in his opinion an original ,as it was solid backed whereas all the others he had seen where hollow backed !

                                Hey Mike,
The pin set up on that is completely different from the ones I've seen.
