That is just the way they made them, in Spain. Spanish made 3rd Reich era awards look different from German made 3rd Reich era awards. I would think it is just the die maker's interpretation of the award. You will notice it is uniface, with the reverse being plain gilt finish. This is exactly the same as one I posted under the "Spanish Made Crosses" thread.

Of course, there was no stigma attached to the swastika in Spain, under the leadership of General Franco. No one knows when, if ever, the Spanish makers stopped making 3rd Reich awards. From the scarcity of the Spanish made awards, I would believe they were made during the 3rd Reich era.

It's not a double-headed eagle - it's just a "cow-lick" like a woodpecker crest at the back.

Never seen a Spanish-made one - learned something new today.
