    Berg-Heil tinnie!

    Hi!

What is this tinnie about? I think its period but probably not military related...

    Thanks!

No, it's not military-related, but a commercially-made civilian item. I wouldn't call it a tinne either, as it is not for any specific event, but a souvenir pin/decorative badge:

"Berg Heil!" [roughly "Mountain hail!"] is the Gipfelgruß [peak/summit salute] used by mountaineers.

Nowadays, it is controversial due to it sounding a lot like "Sieg Heil", with some discussions going on whether it is still acceptable to use it, but this is a bit silly as it really has no political meaning whatsoever and was used well before the Nazis came around: It dates back to the 19th century. (Similiar traditional greetings are "Waidmanns Heil!" for huntsmen or "Petri Heil!" for fishermen.)

The Edelweiß flower is generally symbolic of the alpine regions and found on countless items connected to the mountains/highlands.
