        I have several of these "Germanic" type of pins. I have heard that they were commercial items sold to represent Germanic ancient heritage. They are large and well made. I don't have the type posted, but do have the Odal-Rune and Swastika types.

            Heering and Hüsken couldn't track these things down either and ended up listing the various versions in the "unknown" section of their book. They seem too big to be membership pins and the official brooches are fairly well documented, so Bob's explanation seems pretty likely.
