I have never seen the first badge you have posted but the second badge is for the Aircraft identification branch of the LW. Here's a picture of it being worn.

James - great picture! But should it have a serial # to be authentic?

Any info on the first piece? The marks on the back look ok, but that doesn't always mean they are ok...

Scott, Yes I believe these badges should not only be serialized but they should also have a mm as well as a GES GESCH mark. Here is another picture along with my badge.

The Luftschutz pin looks fime to me, It's not uncommon to see them with only "Ges Gesch" on the back, and occassionally a makers mark. I'm not sure exactly what the pin is for though, maybe someone else can shed light on that.

If you decide to part with it, please let me know, I'm starting a Luftschutz collection.

The first pin in this thread is the "Reichsluftschutz - Flugmeldedienst - 3. type" (Heering/Hüsken 9717c).

The second pin is the "Reichsluftschutz - Flugmeldedienst - 2. type" (Heering/Hüsken 9717b).

In my opinion the first looks good, the second looks???

Williwo - thanks for the info on the two badges/pins!

James, is your pin slightly vaulted/convex? My pin is nearly (if not completely) flat.

very interesting thread...funnily enough, there is a two page special about the Abzeichen fuer Flugmeldehelfer in the current issue of 'Internationales Militaria Magazin'. I have taken a couple of shots from that article...first up is the Flugmeldeabzeichen Type 1.

next up is the certificate awarded with the Flugmeldeabzeichen 1. Form (awarded from 1934 to 1936)...

here is the second example provided...the article also gives some advice for spotting fakes of the second type: should always be maker marked and if the maker is not 'J. Preissler Pforzheim', then you should leave it alone....if it does not have a serial number or has a six digit serial number, then you should also leave it alone...hope this helps?? Needless to say the type 1 is the scarcest of the lot...Cheers, Torsten.
