2 HJ Diamonds for Review (Square Base Plates?)

From looking at just the front, one wouldnt question the pieces. The enamel and pebbling is near perfect. The reverse hardware is the mystery. Personally I like them, the look, feel, texture of the enamel in hand, yet Ive never seen square base plates. But hey, if Im wrong, nobody is perfect. Thanks for looking!

    I think they are reproductions.

Thanks for the input. But I was wondering / hoping you could elaborate a bit more as to why?

As I mentioned before, looking from only the front, the pebbling, the enamel, even up close with a magnifying glass, from the front there is absolutely nothing that would give them away as fake. The enamel is perfect.

The only abnormality is the square plate on the back. Upon further examination there are no cast marks or pot marks that would give these away as cast reproductions on the base metal that I can see. Even the pin setup is reminiscent of other enamels / tinnies of the period.

Also I was not able to find any mention of these on any site / google (after spending about an hour researching).

Not necessarily disagreeing with you, Id just like to get to the bottom of it definitively for future reference.

Pete, tell us exactly why these are reproductions.

You have only provided us with your conclusion, nothing more.

        How about some evidence?

I’m certainly not an expert but they look to be original to me even though I’ve never seen a square nase plate before.

No RZM Marks? There is tons of this stuff around to collect. No need to take risks.

There are plenty of original early / non rzm marked or unmarked examples out there altogether. But thats not the issue at hand whether it is marked or not. Yesterday i showed it to another collector in person and like with my assessment, saw nothing wrong with them. Just trying to solve the mystery of these two pieces.
