    First-Pattern SA Sports Badge

    Hi guy,

Here is a first-pattern SA Sports Badge that came home with me from the MAX Show. I never owned a first-pattern before so I was pleased to get this one. Hope you like it.

    Best regards,
    Tom

It is made by Lauer of Nürnberg/Berlin and serial number 19081. Badge is completely non-ferrous. Wording on sword reverse is Eigentum d. Chefs d. Ausbildungswesens.

A beautiful example of an 'award copy' (numbered) of the First Issue SA Sport Badge, Bronze Grade. Congrats!

          Hi Kevin,

I sold fifteen items at the show and came home with seven things. Came home with two, five-place medal bars, a police six-place ribbon bar, an RAD Medal, first-pattern SA Sport Badge, an Assmann Luftwaffe Flak Badge, and an Imme & Sohn Luftwaffe Radio Operator/Air Gunner Badge.

I bought a nice Tannenberg tinnie at the show but I sold it the next day. Can't keep everything.

          Best regards,
          Tom

Hi Tom,well done ,was Br. James implying that your SA sports badge is not an original or was he just being sarcastic because in England we have a saying sarcasm is the lowest form of wit ,Kevin.

                Hi Kevin,

I don't think he was implying that at all.

                Best regards,
                Tom

Tom is absolutely right -- I intended NO insinuation that this badge is other than genuine and original to the period. The 1st and the 2nd Issue of the SA Sport Badge were produced in two styles or grades, if you will: the Presentation style, which included a control number stamped to the reverse which was keyed to an Award Certificate that was presented with the badge, and a Private Purchase style, which was available to awardees for wear on additional uniforms. Examples of both of these styles of SA Sport Badges are genuine to the period; my use of the word "copy" was intended to indicate "style" or "type;" it was not meant to suggest that this badge was a fake or a phony of any sort.

The 3rd Issue of the SA Sport Badge series, known as the 'SA Military Defense Badge' as it was produced and awarded during the war years, was not manufactured with a control number on its reverse due to an effort to simplify wartime production, and the Award Certificate presented with this badge had no number linking the document to the badge.

With apologies for any misunderstanding...possibly caused by my use of 'American English!'

                  Br. James
