Hi Steve, this is the first time i have seen one of these but Ratisbons have one in their auction at the moment ,no takers yet but a different set up and better condition to the one you have shown Kevin. -
The hinge look wrong, the pin looks replaced and the front looks cast.
Test it with a Magnet to check it’s made of iron which it should be.

There's an example pictured on Page 246 with a brief writeup in Angolia's Political and Civil Awards book. The dimensions given are: 38mm high and 42mm wide. Hope this helps. He also notes that the only examples found to date are in bronze.

I see on Weitze's site and Emedals and few others that have them for sale, they all seem to be in Brass or Tombac. The details on this one seem so soft and the hinge and pin are definitely not original if the badge itself turns out to be good. The maker's mark seems to be very close and seems to be the only thing on this badge that warrants a 2nd look.
It has only been offered to me. I think I will pass too many red flags for my comfort zone.

In THIS TOPIC at the bottom is mine. I took it to Jo last year and at some point the footage might be included in a Sodcast. I had some doubts too since it was unmarked and wanted to be sure. The conclusion after putting it under a microscope was that is an original.
A few variations in pin setup and maker marked/non maker marked badges exist. No doubt many fakes as well. I would stay on known textbook variations in buying these.Comment

As I said before, all you need to do is check these badges with a magnet and you will have your answer.

Im still gratefull for your help with the above badge, but am not sure i agree with you now. Using just a magnet seems a bit too easy? Every faker could make an iron badge, right?
These badges are still a bit underappreciated, but are actually quite interesting. I think we will see many more fakes in the coming years.

Yes, I suppose fakers could die stamp a badge in iron but they certainly couldn't cast one.
If there do exist fakes of this badge, then I bet they are made of a soft material and not iron.
Have you tried testing your's with a magnet? I think you will find its made of iron.
Just my opinion of course.

I have an example in my collection of this badge which I acquired from an American military officer that brought it back from Germany where he was stationed in the 60s. The pin and marking are exactly the same as the one pictured above and the badge was authenticated by Angolia and others at the time I posted it here which was several years ago(2005). A difference I see between my example and the one pictured above is mine has a smoother finish and the patina is more even. It is made of solid bronze and of course it is not magnetic. I can no longer post pictures here so this is about all I can do.

There is the possibility I suppose that some badges were made late war in zinc, but the three versions I have (Gold, Silver and Bronze) are all made of iron.
If you could post a link to the earlier thread, that would be great.

Hi Guys
For anyone who cares I had the badge in hand last Friday and passed on it. It was non-magnetic and either made out of zinc or some other inferior compound. Thanks for all your help
