In fact this was the regular insignia, a brooch to be worn by the Deutscher Frauenarbeitsdienst,
when they were NOT Reichsarbeitsdienst (Arbeitsdienst weibliche Jugend) yet. This was April 1936.

The brooch is shown in "Aufbau des Deutschen Arbeitsdienstes" from about February 1934
and was worn with the Arbeitskleid, closing the lapels and was worn with the Ausgehkleidung.
Officially meant to be worn upon the middle of a black tie, but most often seen closing the white
blouse beneath the windbreaker.

This old brooch was replaced by a new version, which was announced August 3, 1937
(Beschreibung der Brosche neuer Art). It existed in three grades. In the course of later
years other versions were added.

As started by Mr Saris......the Brooch for the Deutscher Frauenarbeitsdienst. All were serial numbered.

Three ranks prior to 1937.

Arbeitsmaid............Bronze Brooch

Maidenfuhrerin.......Silver Brooch

Lagerfuhrerin.........Gold Booch

Yours appears to be the Bronze Brooch.

The motto in Sutterlin script says:”Arbeitsmaid fur den Volk dich Selbst.”-“Labour on behalf of the people enobles you.”
