Question about DRA/DRL Sports Badges

Does anyone know if a recipient was awarded the DRA badge prior or during 1933, would they be able to wear it after 1933, or was the DRL badge required at this time?

Darren, the DRA badge was awarded prior to 1933...but I do not know if the recipient was required to get the DRL later...good question, though...interested to see if anyone else knows...I have ceveral certs for both awards...but I have never seen any info on the requirements for wear after 1933...Cheers, Torsten.

Hi Darren,

it's an old thread, but I could not find an answer.

The DRA period ended in 1934, not in 1933.

It was allowed to wear it later, up to 1945, and in post war years too.

1935 it was allowed to wear the new version, the DRL with swastika.

This is interesting. I would really like to see a picture from the 1930s of a DRL without swastika being worn.

If the recipient of badge DRA could receive badges DRL, must not have more badges DRL? I think that there are more badges DRA.

It is difficult, to find exact official figures for awards of the sports badges.


Approxiamately 480 000 DRA badges for men and women had been awarded.

Approxiamately 1 000 000 DRL badges with swastika for men and women had been awarded.

Exact 0 DRL badges without a swastika had been awarded.
